Description
The Studios of Cocoa Beach is hosting “Making a Pendant with Precious Metal Clay” on Saturday, September 30 from 3 to 7 pm. Instructor Glaucia Romano will introduce you to a clay-like material that can be easily shaped and fired into jewelry.
Event Details
Two Japanese brands "Precious Metal Clay" (PMC), and "Art Clay Silver" are Japanese brands made of recycled metal, such as gold, silver, copper, and bronze. Using this material, we can create close to pure metal jewelry without casting, molds, or metal sheets. The material is flexible enough that you can hand-form easily and it is low-fire, which makes it easier to work with in your home.
For this class we will be creating a simple pendant out of silver clay by pressing texture plates or organic materials into the clay. You will learn how to mold, fire, and polish your work so that you can leave the class with a completed piece.
Fee for the class is $80 plus a $40 supply fee. Finishing stones, beads, chains, and findings to complete your necklace can also be purchased from the instructor during the class.
Glaucia has an MA in Art Education and is a certified Art Educator in the state of Florida. She has taught art classes for over 15 years in the public and private sectors, mostly to kids, but also to adults. Glaucia worked for a jewelry (silver) manufacturer for 4 years and learned to work with metal clay from a senior certified instructor in the early 2000s. She has a wide knowledge of a variety of media and processes and can't wait to share them with you.
Register at the Studio website www.studiosofcocoabeach.org. The class will meet at the Studio classroom behind their gallery at 165 Minutemen Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach.
