As always, the chili competition is open to everyone who thinks they have what it takes to win. Due to the surprisingly large number of no-shows we had last year, we’ve had to make a change in our entry procedure. This year, there will be an $50 entry fee per team. We know how expensive it is to compete and create your masterful chili recipes, so this entry fee is not ours to keep. It will all go to increasing the overall prize package to a total of $1200! Paying out more money and more places in People’s Choice and cash prizes for all the Judge’s categories as well!
There will be prizes for the following categories: "Judges Choice", "Most Unique Chili", "Best Display" (voted on by our esteemed judges) and cash prizes for first through fifth place in "People's Choice" (voted on by the public), giving you 8 chances to win cash!. And, of course, supreme bragging rights for a whole year!
People's Choice (voted on by attendees):
1st place - $500
2nd place - $250
3rd place - $75
4th place - $50
5th place - $25
Judge's Choice (voted on by judges) : $200
Most Unique Chili (voted on by judges) : $50
Best Display (voted on by judges) :$50
To compete, you will need to provide enough chili for roughly 700 samples (8 gallons). To make sure your chili lasts, and everyone gives the same sample size, we will provide the cups and the spoons for sampling again this year.
This is a community fundraising event, so you are welcome to bring promotional items, or to sell merchandise, food, raffle tickets, sodas, tea, lemonade (just no alcoholic beverages or water!).
The event will run from 6pm-9pm Friday November 8th at Riverfront Park. Chili sampling/judging costs $5 for the public at the gate (be patient--we'll check you in as quickly as we can!). Guests will be issued a tasting spoon and a voting ticket. Be sure to taste ALL the chili samples before casting your vote with that ticket!
This evening is fun and friendly for adults, children, and pets alike!
Dirty Oar Beer Company is sponsoring the beer/wine/
