Description
North Carolina Outward Bound School's At-Risk Programs are located in Scottsmoor, Florida and Key Largo, Florida.
Our at-risk youth expeditions offer unique programs to youth, families, schools, professional organizations and communities. Our programs are designed to target the factors that put today's youth at-risk for crime, violence, and substance abuse by teaching them to navigate through the challenges of the teen years, teaching them skills to ease the transition to adulthood, and helping them learn more about themselves. The Outward Bound courses which are designed to meet the specific needs of this population are listed below.
Intercept
Wilderness expeditions offered for teens and young adults from across the United States who are beginning to demonstrate destructive behaviors. Instructors of these courses facilitate 20-50 day wilderness expeditions, a component of which includes face-to-face meetings or phone calls with the parents. Courses are offered for 12-13 year olds, 14-17 year olds, 18-22 year olds.
FINS (Families in Need of Services)
Wilderness expeditions for Florida at-risk youth aged 13-17 located in specific counties. Instructors instruct a 20-day canoeing expedition and then facilitate a 10-day follow-up phase designed to help students transfer what they learned on the river to their home and school environments.
