The Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artists will meet at 10 am on Saturday , September 23, at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway. Sara Pietruk-Catlett will lead a workshop on “Creating Buttons with Polymer Clay”
Polymer clay allows you to roll, shape, emboss and combine colored clay and then fire it in an oven. We will learn several different techniques for creating patterned clays to create buttons which are perfect for embellishing hand- woven garments and other wearable art.
Sara is a skilled artisan who works include crochet, rug hooking, wood
turning, wire knitting, and polymer clay. She has been working with polymer clay for over 10 years. She says, “ I have explored many techniques such as surface design, sculpting, jewelry (including precious metal clay), organic art, painting with clay, picture mapping, millefiori, mold making, and extruding. I love showing others what is possible”
The fee for the workshop is $10 which includes clay and printed instructions. Tool usage is free. Visitors are invited to bring their latest fiber creations to share during the show and tell portion of the meeting.
Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, quilting, dyeing and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts. For more information call Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610.
