Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge was established to: Provide habitat for migratory birds, provide habitat and protection for endangered species, provide habitat for natural wildlife diversity, provide opportunities for wildlife-dependent recreational activities.
The refuge is open daily sunrise to sunset. The Visitor Information Center is open 8 am to 4 pm seven days a week from November- March, closed on Sundays April - October. The Visitor Center is closed on some federal holidays.
